Owens Carolina, through its relationship with 3D Orthotics and Prosthetics, has been working on the process of printing anatomical models from the patients CT scan. Because the CT scan is 3-dimensional, it is possible to create a file that the 3D printer can read. The printer will produce an anatomically correct model based on the data the CT scan provides. The model here shows the first cervical vertebrae sitting off to the side of the second cervical vertebrae. It is also possible to print objects from handheld scanners and engineering software. The cost to 3D print with this level of quality is less than you think.
